You may need a trim.

When was the last time you had your hair trimmed?

Many naturals cringe at this question. Most don't know or simply don't care. Did you know that the longer you grow between trims, the more length you will end up losing?

Here are some things to keep in mind if you're not trimming your hair like you should or if you just don't trim your hair.

BREAKAGE

If a stylist doesn't trim your hair, it will break off. I hear so many naturals tell me that their hair just doesn't grow. This simply is not true, without a trim your hair can b be breaking at the same rate your hair is growing. Weak spots in your curls structure will break with manipulation. This stunts your length retention

LACK OF SHAPE

If your hair lacks shape and definition this means that your curls structure is suffering and a trim can bring it back to life. Lacking shape also means that after you style your hair to the gawds, it falls flat. Frustrating right? This also could mean that you have uneven layers that need to be cleaned up.

SPLIT ENDS

You can see split ends. The end of your strand looks like its either split into two or it looks a like a tree with many branches. The best thing to do is to trim these yourself or go to a stylist that can trim them for you. Split ends also make your ends feel rough. Rough ends feel dry, and look frizzy. If you can see through your hair towards the ends, you need a trim.

DETANGLING BATTLES

Does it take forever to comb through your hair after you shampoo and condition? This is a sign that your ends are in need of a trim. Fairy knots (single strand knots) also make it hard to detangle your hair. Don't rip these little knots off, trim these strands. Ripping the knots off cause more damage to your hair.

I won't even front, I rip mine off. I'm trying to do better!

CHECK YOUR CALENDAR

If you look at your calendar and can't even remember that last time you got a trim, you need one. It is best to stay on a trimming schedule to keep your ends healthy. You should trim your hair every 6-8 weeks or as your hair tells you!
