Dry Hair Blues

The number one complaint that I get is the infamous, dry, unmanageable hair blues. Natural haired ladies from near and far complain that no matter what they do, their hair ends up dry. I think at this point we are all tired of hearing about the dry hair blues. I do believe the remedy for curly girls is simple. STOP using oils, butters, cheap products, and products that are filled with oils and butters.

If you are using Shea Moisture, Cantu, your home girl’s Shea Butter “growth” recipe, or any other products loaded with oil and butter, please just stop. Throw these products away or gift them to someone you don’t care about. It’s time to detox your curls now.

A curl detox is when you remove product build up from your curls with a clarifying shampoo like Malibu C’s Un-do-Goo, or Uncle Funky’s Daughter’s Squeaky. Next you follow up with an all-purpose shampoo like AG Balance and then condition with AG Boost. {The link to purchase AG is here https://bit.ly/33YpDJF} Once you remove the build-up of products and oils from your hair, it is imperative to style with products that do not contain oils and butters. This is where doing your research matters. Read the ingredients and be sure to steer clear of the ones that cause unnecessary build up. Water-soluble ingredients are best.

Let me guess, your hair looks so good when its wet, but when it dries, it looks dull and frizzy?! Please understand that when you put oil on your hair, it repels any additional water from getting into your hair. Once the water underneath the oil evaporates, it leaves you with a dry strand that additional water cannot get to. Oil is NOT a moisturizer. When you shampoo your hair, pay attention to how the water reacts with your hair. If you have an oil or product build up on your strands, the water beads up on your hair. The oil repels the water. Water should be absorbed by your hair.

Think about how long you have been using the wrong products. Think about how long you have been using oils, butters, and products that contain them. Think about how long you have been doing the LOC/LCO method. I am sure that is a long time. That is a lot of build-up. That is a lot of coconut oil, and castor oil. The result of all of this madness is dry dehydrated hair. It will take some time to rehydrate your hair. It will take some time to truly understand the way oils and butters effect your hair. The best way to rid yourself of dry hair blues is to begin shampooing more frequently and begin using products that help you to hydrate your hair. Your hair will flourish when you use high quality products with more plant-based ingredients.

Until then, girl just stop with the oil, I promise you have nothing to lose but that dryness that you complain about.
